چکیده

We summarize some recent results of vortex motion control and vortex kinetic friction. (1) We describe a device [J.E. Villegas, S. Savel’ev, F. Nori, E.M. Gonzalez, J.V. Anguita, R. Garcı̀a, J.L. Vicent, Science 302 (2003) 1188] that can easily control the motion of flux quanta in a Niobium superconducting film on an array of nanoscale triangular magnets. Even though the input ac current has zero average, the resulting net motion of the vortices can be directed along either one direction, the opposite direction, or producing zero net motion. We also consider layered strongly anisotropic superconductors, with no fixed spatial asymmetry, and show [S. Savel’ev, F. Nori, Nature Materials 1 (2002) 179] how, with asymmetric drives, the ac motion of Josephson and/or pancake vortices can provide a net dc vortex current. (2) In analogy with the standard macroscopic friction, we present [A. Maeda, Y. Inoue, H. Kitano, S. Savel’ev, S. Okayasu, I. Tsukada, F. Nori , Phys. Rev. Lett. 94 (2005) 077001] a comparative study of the friction force felt by vortices in superconductors and charge density waves. 2006 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Vortex motion in trapped Bose–Einstein condensate

We have studied the motion of a vortex-antivortex pair together with a single vortex in trapped Bose-Einstein condensate (BEC) by numerically solving the twodimensional Gross-Pitaevskii equation, and found that the path of the vortices depends on the initial separation distance and dissipation. This motion was periodic and it was found that sound waves appear due to the cyclical movement, whose...

Motion of a Vortex Filament in Superfluid He: Effects of Friction Force in the Hall-Vinen Phenomenological Model

The motion of a vortex filament in superfluid He is considered by using the Hall-Vinen phenomenological model for the scattering process between the vortex and thermal excitations in liquid He. The Hall-Vinen equations are formulated first in the intrinsic geometric parameter space to obtain insights into the physical implications of one aspect of the friction term, associated with the friction...

Numerical Investigation of Vortex Interaction in Pipe Flow

To discover the nonlinear characteristics of pipe flow, we simulated the flow as a sum of many vortex rings. As a first step, we investigated the nonlinear interaction among a maximum of three vortex rings. The pipe wall was replaced by many bound vortices. A free vortex ring moves right or left according to the radius, and that of a particular radius keeps the initial position. The energy of a...

Prediction of Extrusion Pressure in Vortex Extrusion Using a Streamline Approach

Vortex extrusion (VE) is a severe plastic deformation technique which is based on the synergies between high strain accumulation and high hydrostatic pressure. Such a high amount of pressure, places a mandate to seek the method for investigation of the load under processing conditions. For this, kinematically admissible velocity field and upper bound terms based on Bezier formulation are develo...

Exactly solvable model of dissipative vortex tunneling

I consider the problem of vortex tunneling in a two-dimensional superconductor. The vortex dynamics is governed by the Magnus force and the Ohmic friction force. Under-barrier motion in the vicinity of the saddle point of the pinning potential leads to a model with quadratic Hamiltonian which can be analytically diagonalized. I find a non-monotonic dependence of the tunneling probability on the...
